A seaside commune of the Petite Camargue (lo Grau dau Rei in Provençal), combining a fishing port, beaches and the Espiguette headland. It includes the Port-Camargue district.
History
At the end of the 16th century the Rhône opened a channel to the sea, a ’grau’. Reopened in 1610 and named ’grau Henri’ in honour of Henry IV, it eventually gave the village its name, Le Grau-du-Roi (the King’s channel).
