A village in the commune of Vauvert in the heart of the Petite Camargue, at the foot of the Costières, on the Rhône-Sète canal and the Scamandre lagoon. Life here revolves around vines (AOC Costières-de-Nîmes), fishing and reed cutting, the ’sagne’.
History
Around 1770-1780 the Gallissian family set up a hut on the edge of the marshes, on the road from Saint-Gilles to Aigues-Mortes; the place took its name. The canal and bridge of the late 18th century helped it grow.
