Stops
Camargue Museum
First stop at the Mas du Pont-de-Rousty, 8 kilometres from Arles. In the former sheepfold, the Camargue Museum tells the story of the delta and its people.
Albaron and rice
At Albaron, on the Petit Rhône, a family of rice growers shows visitors around its rice fields. Camargue rice has had protected geographical indication status since 2000.
The Vaccarès lagoon
This is the Vaccarès, the largest lagoon in the Camargue: 6,500 hectares, 12 kilometres long and less than two metres deep. Locals call it the Grand Mar. The roads along it are open to all, but swimming and fishing are forbidden in the reserve.
Pont de Gau bird park
Just before Saintes-Maries, the Pont de Gau bird park, founded in 1949, lets you get close to flamingos. Their colour comes from carotenoid pigments in the algae and small crustaceans they eat.
Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer
Arrival in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a pilgrimage village and seaside resort around its fortified church.
